Smooth Sailing...relatively

Once the bleeding drama finally ended, we were able to breath a sigh of relief. I was still nervous to do anything in the nursery, or buy any fun baby stuff. I really didn't want a house full of cute baby stuff if there was a chance that they wouldn't make it.

We went in for the anatomy scan, or as I like to call it, inventory of the organs. It was at about 18 weeks. We found out that they were identical girls!! That is when it became REAL for me! To see my DAUGHTERS on the screen squirming around and trying to be illusive drove it home for me.

Only one would cooperate for a picture but since they are identical I figured one pic would be good. I can already tell they have daddy's nose.

We finally got started on the nursery. We had an old desk that my mother had given to my father for an anniversary years ago that I have been holding on to. I painted it and re-purposed it for a changing table and dresser. Worked out perfectly!

The knobs on the desk were a little worn so I bought plain wooden knobs and painted them with monkeys! I know we are having girls but they are still my little monkeys!

Those are also the colors we decided to paint the walls.

This is when the fun really began! :)

Our First Big Scare

At 14 weeks my morning sickness finally subsided! I was so grateful! My tummy was starting to poke out a little bit. It was feeling very real! I woke up at 5am one morning and realized I had wet the bed! I was mortified!! I ran to the bathroom trying not to wake my husband up. When I turned on the light, I realized I hadn't peed my bed at all. It was blood!! I began to sob! I couldn't believe this was happening!

My husband came running to see what was wrong. He immediately called the doctor who told us to run the to ER. They did blood tests and ultrasounds but couldn't find anything wrong. After three hours, they sent us home telling me to take it easy and follow up with my OB.

Later that evening, the bleeding had finally stopped and I was relaxing on the couch. It started again. This time with horrible cramping. We rushed back to the ER and had more tests done. The ER doctor kept telling me it wouldn't be long now before it would be over. He kept telling me it was most likely a miscarriage. We were devastated!!

They sent us in for another ultrasound and low and behold, both babies were FINE!!! They had no idea where the bleeding was coming from, but it wasn't from the babies!! The next day I was sent home for some bed rest and healing! It was terrifying!! I never want to experience anything like that again!!

The bleeding lasted about 6 weeks but they kept a really close eye on me and my cervix and we healed very well!!
